AE-mail ArticlePrint ArticleRights & ReprintsSingle PageSubmit a Comment Philips has announced a new Streamium network player, Model NP1100, that will be its first designed to work with the Rhapsody digital music service, when it hits retail in May at $149.
The NP1100, which can connect to a PC via Wi-Fi and stream music from it to a home audio system, will be the first Philips product to take advantage of the recently announced partnership between the hardware manufacturer and the CD-quality digital music service, which offers a catalog of 4.5 million songs, professionally programmed music channels and themed playlists, according to Philips.
Several models of the Philips GoGear line of portables in the SA Series are also due out in the second quarter that will be Rhapsody-enabled. All products will ship with a 30-day free trial of the service, after which owners can extend subscriptions to either home-use Rhapsody Unlimited ($12.99 per month) or Rhapsody To Go ($14.99 per month) options. The latter option permits transfer of music to supported MP3 players. The Streamium Model NP1100 also features free Internet radio connectivity.
The GoGear models will range from $109 to $199, depending on their feature sets and whether their storage capacity is 4GB or 8GB, and will allow listeners to flag songs for future purchase. All models, says Philips, will work out of the box for existing Rhapsody subscribers who purchase them. What do you think about this product? Talk about it in the CustomRetailer forums.
