Philips has just launched a new universal remote to solve this urban irritation, the SRU8015 - it will allow you to control up to 15 home-entertainment devices from a single remote. Navigating through menus is really easy thanks to the 2in full-colour LCD screen and the iPod-esque rotary click-wheel.

When scrolling through TV channels it will display the channel logo on the screen to make life easier, and you can store up to 100 channels in your Favourites folder for one-buttonn access to your most-watched shows. The SRU8015 will work with almost any bit of kit in your existing audio-visual set-up - you can pair it with most devices simply by pointing your existing remote control at the sensor on the Philips unit.

If you have remote-control lighting or blinds, the Philips will almost certainly work with that too. Set-up is a cinch - you don’t need a computer, you just follow the on-screen instructions on your television. Streamlined and useful, this remote is a must for anyone fed up of sifting through a mountain of controls whenever they want to change channels. Domestic bliss beckons.
