Philips is going after the female market again with a new stylish clip-on player called GoGear LUXE. The player sports either a ruby red or white prism design on the outside, but don’t be fooled by its faux jewel-like cover because this player has a few extra goodies you won’t find on the iPod shuffle such as Bluetooth connectivity.

You can pair the Philips Luxe with your cell phone and effectively use it as a Bluetooth headset. The music stops when a call comes in. There’s even a one-line LCD for caller ID purposes.

At S$139 (US$94.37) for a flash-based 2GB player, this packs Bluetooth 2.1 and dual mikes, so you can pair this wirelessly with your Bluetooth-enabled mobile and answer calls on your player. The music will stop for that. A one-line LCD also lets you view the caller’s number at a glimpse.

Good golly! Philips has only gone and got all stylish on us with their range of GoGear mp3 players. This, ladies and gents, is the GoGear Luxe and I quite fancy it. I’d ask it out on a date. Hell, I’d take it home to meet my parents. So, it’s a little disturbing to find out that this clip-and-click audio player-come-bluetooth headset is actually aimed at women.

Philips’ PET723: downscaling and stretching DVDs has undesirable consequences First impressions are mixed. The PET723 looks stylish enough, with the 7in, 480 x 234 widescreen display dominating the all-black faceplate. But when you pick it up, the plastic chassis feels almost toy-like. A good old-fashioned volume wheel sits on the left side and is joined by an SD/MMC card slot, single headphone socket, AV output port and power hook-up.
