Philips to make 70% of LCDs through OEMs
Electronics giant Philips has announced plans to outsource the production of 70 per cent of its liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs this year. The figures, revealed to Commerce Times, represent an increase in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) involvement from last years 60 per cent. With Philips expecting to ship 14 million LCD TVs in 2007, this means that about ten million will be outsourced to OEMs.
The companys main OEM partner, TPV Technology will receive orders for about five million LCD TVs. Meanwhile, Toshiba has unveiled the largest LCD TV on the market. The REGZA Z3500 57-inch series offers 100 Hz technology, less motion blur and a panel contrast ratio of 2000:1. Consumer electronics group i-Tech has launched a transflective LCD monitor which can be viewed in intense weather conditions and in direct sunlight.
