IGEL partners with Philips Speech Recognition Systems

The partners say that the technology facilitates attaching digitally captured findings directly to patient files, and may offer enhanced cost-efficiency and optimisation to the healthcare sector. According to industry experts, digital dictation and speech recognition systems can save up to 50% of the time in medical reporting, especially in cases where large hospitals are involved.

IGEL says that the service could improve response time and treatment results and minimise medical errors through the faster provision of medical information. This in turn will enable healthcare professionals to take informed decisions. Marcel Wassink, managing director, Philips Speech Recognition Systems, said: “Medical errors occur in all areas of the treatment process and typically involve the wrong medication, improper treatment, or incorrect or delayed test results.

Together with IGEL we created a solution for users of thin-clients that leads to higher accuracy, convenience and efficiency in clinical documentation and can help provide physicians with better patient insight.” Offering easy access to modern diction devices such as Philips SpeechMike and industrial grade speech recognition facilities to its users, the service will enable doctors to dictate their reports as audio files instead of filling them in manually.

These can be stored on the server through the IGEL thin client, leaving the doctor with more time to concentrate on patients. Stephen Yeo, strategic marketing director, IGEL, said: “Immediately after their rounds, doctors can record their findings via the thin client and assign them to the appropriate patient files.
